The Experience
Sunrise Expedition: A Front-Row Seat to the Atlantic
Experience the magic of a coastal morning without the stress of navigating the sand or finding the perfect spot. Our Sunrise Expedition is designed for those who want to witness the birth of a new day in total comfort and style. Whether you’re a photographer chasing the "Golden Hour," a couple looking for a romantic start, or a family wanting a unique Assateague memory, we handle the logistics so you can focus on the horizon.
What to Expect
Door-to-Door Service: We’ll pick you up from your home or rental one hour before the official sunrise based on Weather Channel data. As long as you are within our Service Area, the adventure starts at your front door.
The Ride: You’ll head to the beach in our outfitted 2022 Ford Bronco. Weather permitting, we’ll peel back the soft top to give you an open-air view of the salt air and coastal landscape as we transition onto the sand.
The Main Event: We’ll find a pristine, uncrowded stretch of the Assateague OSV zone. For one hour, the beach is your living room. Watch the sun crest over the Atlantic as the wild horses begin their morning graze.
Tailored Comfort: Want to sit in the sand? We’ll set up high-quality beach chairs for you. Have a specific breakfast or coffee blend you love? Bring your own food and beverages, and we’ll provide the cooler and setup to make it a true beachfront breakfast.
Stress-Free Return: Once the sun is high and the colors have shifted, we’ll drive you back to your door, leaving you with the rest of your day to enjoy.
Important: Our OSV Capacity Protocol
To preserve the pristine nature of Assateague Island, the National Park Service strictly caps the Over-Sand Vehicle (OSV) zone at 145 vehicles at any one time. While capacity limits are rare during the dawn hours, the island can occasionally experience backups during major holiday weekends or peak summer dates.
If the limit is met when we arrive, we will make a collaborative judgment call based on your preferences:
The Scenic Wait: We can join the queue and relax in the climate-controlled Bronco. Because we are already on the island, the sky will begin to change and the sunrise can still be enjoyed directly from our position in line.
The High-End Bayside Alternative: If the line is stationary and time is critical, we will pivot immediately to protect your experience. Because you do not need to leave the comfort of the vehicle, we will park near the Old Ferry Landing or near the Bayside Campgrounds. These locations offer beautiful, unobstructed eastward views over the bay where you can watch the sunrise colors shift across the water completely uninterrupted.
Availability and Booking
Season: May | June | July | August | September
Capacity: 1 to 4 Guests. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by at least one adult.
Star Watching Cruise: A Guided Journey Through the Cosmos
Turn your gaze upward and discover the stories written in the stars. Our Science and Wonder Star Cruise is more than just a moonlit ride. It is an immersive educational experience designed to connect you with the vastness of the universe from one of the darkest spots on the East Coast.
Assateague Island’s remote location provides a natural "dark sky" theater, making it the premier destination for stargazing far away from the light pollution of the city.
What to Expect
The Journey Out: We’ll pick you up from your location one hour before sunset in our outfitted 2022 Ford Bronco. As we drive onto the island, you’ll watch the sky transition from the fiery oranges of dusk to a deep, starlit indigo.
Interactive Exploration: Once we are settled in the heart of the dunes, the "Science" begins. We provide a large-screen tablet pre-loaded with the Sky Map app. As you point the tablet at the sky, it identifies constellations, planets, and distant galaxies in real-time, turning the night sky into a giant, interactive map of the cosmos.
Guided Discovery: While the app helps you navigate, we provide the atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for the rings of Saturn or the mythologies behind the constellations, we facilitate a quiet, awe-inspiring space for discovery.
Cozy and Comfortable: We’ll set up your beach chairs and provide a high-end cooler for any evening beverages or snacks you wish to bring.
Important: Our OSV Capacity Protocol
To preserve the pristine nature of Assateague Island, the National Park Service strictly caps the Over-Sand Vehicle (OSV) zone at 145 vehicles at any one time. While this limit is less common after sunset, it can occasionally be met during peak summer months or special celestial events like meteor showers.
If the limit is met when we arrive, we will make a collaborative judgment call based on your preferences:
The Scenic Wait: We can join the queue, relax in the climate-controlled Bronco, and head out onto the sand as soon as a spot opens. Because the sky is already dark, the stargazing begins right from our waiting point.
The High-End Bayside Alternative: If the wait time is excessive, we will pivot immediately to protect your experience. Because you do not have to leave the comfort of the climate-controlled Bronco to enjoy the view, we will park near the Old Ferry Landing or near the Bayside Campgrounds. These locations offer incredible, wide-open views of the night sky with absolutely no light interference, ensuring your stargazing journey continues completely uninterrupted.
Availability and Booking

We provide the door-to-door transportation, the high-end gear, and a secluded coastal destination—you just provide the relaxation.

What to Expect

The "Instant Camp" Setup: No hauling heavy gear. We provide high-quality beach chairs and a sturdy umbrella to ensure you have a comfortable home base completely set up for you.
Your Personal Oasis: You’re free to swim, hunt for shells, or watch the wild horses roam. Bring your own favorite lunch, snacks, and beverages—we’ll provide a premium cooler with ice to keep everything chilled while you enjoy the Atlantic breeze.
Flexible Duration: You choose your pace. Stay for a quick 1-hour refresher or extend your escape for up to 4 hours of sun-soaked bliss.
Important: Our OSV Capacity Protocol
To preserve the pristine nature of Assateague Island, the National Park Service strictly caps the Over-Sand Vehicle (OSV) zone at 145 vehicles at any one time. During peak summer hours, this limit is often met, creating a wait time at the gate.
If the limit is met when we arrive, we will make a collaborative judgment call based on your preferences:
The Scenic Wait: We can join the queue, relax in the climate-controlled Bronco, and head out onto the sand as soon as a spot opens.
The Seamless Walk-In Alternative: If the wait is too long, we will pivot immediately to ensure you don't lose a minute of your beach day. We will park in the paved lot, and your guide will handle 100% of the physical labor—walking your premium chairs, cooler, and umbrella directly over the dunes and setting them up for you so your luxury experience remains entirely effortless.

-
The wild horses of Assateague are beautiful, but they are wild animals. For your safety and the protection of the herd, federal law requires that you maintain a distance of at least 40 feet (about one bus length) at all times.
Do not feed the horses: This encourages "nuisance" behavior that can lead to the horses being removed from the island.
Store food securely: Horses are experts at raiding unsealed bags or open coolers. We provide high-quality, latched coolers to help keep your lunch safe and the horses wild.
-
We provide the vehicle, the navigation, and the cooler, but you should pack these essentials to stay comfortable:
Bug Spray: The Assateague mosquitoes and biting flies are legendary (especially if the wind is blowing from the marsh). We highly recommend bringing a heavy-duty repellent.
Layers for All Tours: Even in the summer, the Atlantic breeze can be surprisingly cool.
Sunrise & Night Tours: Bring extra layers or light jackets. During the winter months, we strongly encourage you to bring your favorite heavy blankets to stay cozy under the stars.
Day Tours: Bring lightweight, long-sleeve layers (like sun-shirts) for added protection against UV rays.
Sunscreen: The reflection of the sun off the white sand and ocean is intense. Even on cloudy days, high-SPF sunscreen is a must.
Food & Beverage: You are welcome to bring any food or drinks that can fit into a standard-sized cooler. We will provide the ice and the secure storage.

At Waypoint Studio, stewardship is a core value, not just a policy. To be a good steward means acting as a temporary guardian of the land to ensure it remains pristine for the next explorers—and the local wildlife.
When you book a tour with us, you are joining our commitment to "Leave No Trace." We take this seriously by:
Handling the Waste: We provide trash bags for every tour and will haul away all waste ourselves.
Protecting the Ecosystem: By following established OSV (Off-Sand Vehicle) paths and maintaining federal safety distances from the wild horses, we protect the delicate coastal environment.
A Shared Agreement: By choosing Waypoint Studio, you are agreeing to help us keep Assateague wild and beautiful. We appreciate you helping us protect this special National Seashore.
-
Yes, you are welcome to play music! We want you to enjoy your "waypoint" to the fullest. However, to respect the unique environment of the National Seashore, we ask that you keep the volume at a low, ambient level.
Why the volume matters:
The Wild Horses: Assateague’s horses are highly sensitive to sudden or loud noises. High volumes can spook the animals or disrupt their natural grazing patterns. In fact, under federal law (36 CFR 2.2), making noises that "distract or attract" wildlife is strictly prohibited.
Park Tranquility: Many visitors come to Assateague to enjoy the sounds of the surf and the wind. We aim to be good neighbors to other beachgoers.
Official Regulations & Limits:
The "Unreasonable Noise" Rule: Per the Assateague Island National Seashore Superintendent's Compendium, "unreasonable noise" is prohibited. Noise is generally considered unreasonable if it can be heard from a distance of 50 feet or more from the vehicle.
Quiet Hours: If your tour extends toward late evening (especially near the campgrounds), please note that quiet hours begin at 10:00 PM.
Decibel Limits: While there is no specific decibel meter required for casual music, a good rule of thumb is the 60-decibel limit (roughly the volume of a normal conversation). If your music can be heard clearly by someone standing 20-30 feet away from the Bronco, it's likely too loud for the park's environment.
In short: Feel free to set the mood with your favorite playlist, but keep it at a level where you can still hear the ocean!
-
In short: No, Waypoint Studio does not allow bonfires on our tours at this time.
While the National Park Service (NPS) does permit beach bonfires on Assateague under specific conditions, we have made the professional decision to exclude them from our current experiences.
Understanding the Park Rules
To protect the shoreline, the NPS has strict regulations regarding beach fires:
Location: Fires must be built on the beach between the high and low tide lines (the "wet sand" area). They are never allowed on the high beach or near the dunes.
Firewood: To prevent the spread of invasive species like the Emerald Ash Borer, only locally purchased firewood (from within 50 miles) or "down and dead" wood may be used.
Extinguishing: All fires must be completely extinguished with water. You are strictly prohibited from burying a fire with sand, as this creates a "thermal oven" that can severely burn unsuspecting hikers or horses hours later.
Total Cleanup: Every piece of unburned wood, ash, and debris must be removed from the beach and disposed of in an approved metal container outside the OSV zone.
Why Waypoint Studio Says "No" (For Now)
As a professional guide service, our priority is your safety and the preservation of the National Seashore. At this time, Waypoint Studio is not equipped with the heavy-duty metal containers or the large-volume water transport systems required to properly extinguish and haul away fire debris.
Because we operate under a Leave No Trace philosophy, we will not light a fire unless we can guarantee the beach is returned to its exact natural state. For now, we recommend enjoying the natural "light show" of a coastal sunrise or the brilliance of the Milky Way during our Star Watching Cruise!
Giving Back: Finding Hope at the Waypoint
At Waypoint Studio, our mission is about more than just navigating the sand; it’s about navigating toward a better future for our community. My commitment to supporting children in need is rooted in years of personal service, and I am proud to weave that dedication into the fabric of this business.
Our Roots in Service
Before founding Waypoint Studio, I spent years working to ensure that children facing critical illnesses could find moments of pure, unadulterated joy.
Make-A-Wish Foundation: I served as a volunteer for the Philadelphia area chapter, conducting family interviews to ensure every "wish" was 100% focused on the child’s unique dreams.
Cycle Across Pennsylvania: In 2010, I co-organized a 347-mile charity ride from the New Jersey border to West Virginia. Together, we pushed through 69 miles a day and raised $10,000 to fund life-changing wishes.
“Any time we can do something to help... we’re going to do it.” — From our 2010 feature in My Community Trend.
Our Partnership with the Worcester County CAC
Today, Waypoint Studio is a proud Community Partner of the Worcester County Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The CAC provides a safe, child-friendly environment for children who have experienced trauma, offering them a path toward healing and justice.
How your booking makes a difference: For every "Sunrise Expedition," "Star Watching Cruise," or "Day on the Beach" you book, a portion of the proceeds is donated directly to the CAC. These funds stay right here in Worcester County, helping to provide:
Healing Services: Supporting eco-based and equine therapy programs that help children rebuild their confidence and resilience.
Advocacy & Support: Ensuring every child has a dedicated team of professionals standing by their side during the most difficult times of their lives.
Memorable Experiences: Helping the CAC create positive, lasting memories for children that remind them of their own strength and the beauty of the world around them.
When you find your waypoint with us, you’re helping a local child find theirs.
